Public Programs Officer
Melanie became a member of the ATW team in April 2022 as Public Programs Officer.
She has a Bachelor of Design in Fashion and Applied Science in Psychology from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. She has experience in the local fashion and design industry gained over the last 9 years that reflect her interest in interdisciplinary design and making.
As Public Programs Officer Melanie works closely alongside the Public Programs & Exhibitions Coordinator to assist with developing dynamic and accessible programs and support the creation and delivery of all ‘front facing’ public activities including digital and print communications, workshops, exhibitions and events that engage a diverse range of artists, students, supporters, stakeholders and the general public.
Melanie has a research based creative practice exploring reuse opportunities for discarded fashion and textiles and how the value of materials can be imbedded through the making process and communicated to diverse audiences. She is currently completing her Honours year in Fashion (Design) at RMIT researching how participatory design might increase the perceived value of design outcomes.
Melanie's two favourite ATW tapestries are 'The Royal Harvest' designed by Naomi Hobson in 2021 and 'Perspectives on a Flat Surface' designed by John Wardle Architect’s in 2015.
