The ATW is delighted to announce American artist Pae White as the 2017 Hancock Fellow.
The Hancock Fellow, established by the Tapestry Foundation of Australia in 1998 in honour of former Chairman of the Board Arnold Hancock OBE, allows opportunities to bring internationally recognised experts in tapestry, textile and design to visit the ATW and share their expertise.
Pae White (b. 1964, lives and works in Los Angeles) is an internationally recognised artist best known for her large-scale machine-loomed tapestries and immersive site-specific installations in a variety of media. Her practice merges art, design, craft and architecture to create works that transcend the traditional boundaries between these fields. At the heart of Pae’s practice is an interest in capturing fleeting beauty, and challenging the viewer’s understanding of the everyday.
Pae will give a free public lecture at the ATW in December, providing an insight into her fascinating career and focusing on her recent projects and exhibitions. This includes her participation in the inaugural NGV Triennial 2017.
Pae’s visit to Melbourne has been made possible by a partnership between ATW and the NGV.
