Tapestry Foundation of Australia

The ATW acknowledges with gratitude the TFA's longstanding generosity. The Tapestry Foundation of Australia was established in 1995 to enable and encourage the development of tapestry in Australia through collaborations with the ATW. It has since generously supported a wide range of ATW initiatives from tapestry creation, publishing books on the work of the ATW, exhibitions of tapestries nationally and internationally, international visiting speakers through the Hancock Fellowship, and international weaver exchanges through the Myer Scholarship.

The TFA initiated the Tapestries for Hospitals Project, with key donors, including the State Government, which has enabled the weaving of contemporary tapestries at the ATW to brighten the walls of major hospitals in Victoria. These include: the Royal Children's' Hospital, Melbourne; the Royal Women's Hospital, Melbourne; the Warrnambool Base Hospital; the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne; the Joan Kirner Women's and Children's Hospital, Sunshine; the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and the Northern Hospital, Epping. The TFA was also the instigator and a vital supporter of the Embassy Tapestry Program through which commissioned tapestries designed by Indigenous artists are loaned for long-term display in Australian Embassies and High Commissions. In 2018 the TFA co-funded the major 'Morning Star' tapestry for the new Sir John Monash Centre, Villers Bretonneux, France.

The Tapestry Foundation of Australia is supporting the Australian Tapestry Workshop in 2021-22 through the Threads for the Future Grant.
