Traditionally (and persistently) sidelined by art history, due to its presumed domestic and feminine connotations, textile practice is enduring and ubiquitous in all its diversity.
For this panel discussion, Craft and the Australian Tapestry Workshop have come together to invite three contemporary artists approaching textile materials, practices and processes in different ways to discuss its poetic and political potential and power.
Bringing together ATW artist in residence, Cara Johnson; as well as Craft exhibiting artists, Georgia Brunmayr and Nadia Hernández, the conversation will consider textile practice across the wearable, functional and the sculptural as lead by textile enthusiast, and Craft Chair, Matthew Lucas.
