Emma Sulzer first began working as a weaver at the ATW in 2004 after completing an Honours Degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts (Tapestry) and a Diploma of Education (Secondary) at Monash University.
Under the mentorship of a more experienced weaver, Emma has led two major tapestries: Untitled (2012) designed by David Noonan and North Facing (2012) designed by Bern Emmerichs for the Northen Hospital in Epping. She has worked on Spring Street End (2011) designed by Ben McKeown for the State Library of Victoria; Kunawarritji to Wajaparni (2011) designed by Jeffrey James, Charlie Wallabi Tjungurrayi, Patrick Tjungurrayi, Peter Tinker, Helicopter Tjungurrayi, Richard Yukenbarri Tjakamarra, Clifford Brooks and Putuparri Tom Lawford for the Embassy to the Holy See at the Vatican; Ngayuku Ngura (this is my country) (2010) designed by Nyankulya Watson for the Australian Embassy in Rome; Games Children Play (2009) designed by Robert Ingpen AM for the Royal Children’s Hospital; The Visitor (2008) designed by Jon Cattapan for Xavier College; Research and Respond (2007) designed by Merrin Eirth for the Royal Melbourne Hospital; and Glyphs (2005) designed by G.W Bot.
Emma’s two favorite ATW tapestries are Untitled designed by David Noonan in 2012 and Glyphs designed by G.W Bot in 2005.
