Isabel Deakin is the creator of Kin Workshop. Kin designs are based on a technique of piecing together fabric to form three dimensional objects, a technique Isabel started developing in 2016. Kin designs are made in Naarm/Melbourne and explore the sculptural potential of textiles.

Kin Workshop loosely emerged early 2020 in Los Angeles, California. Each design is handmade with individually cut and hand-sewn pieces. This technique is inspired by the traditional craft of patchwork. The sculptural nature of Kin Workshop designs are informed by Isabel’s architectural training; she holds a Master of Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles. The craft practice as a whole acts as a counterpoint to Isabel’s day job working in architecture. The slow, individual and informal act of making contrasts the highly professionalised, digital and collaborative world of architecture.
