'Entanglement’ is an exhibition of dyed, woven, stitched, and painted works by American artist Kayla Powers. It explores foundational textile technologies—string, rope, nets, and knots—that have shaped our collective human experience.
These forms embody somatic knowledge and reflect our deep relationships with, and as part of, the living world. Drawing from both the history of art and the practices of the land, the work connects ancient technologies with contemporary ecological concerns, positioning textiles as both a record and a living process.
Powers’ materials—grown, foraged, or transformed through natural dyes—carry stories of place and memory, while the techniques she uses reflect a lineage of making that is at once personal, cultural, and universal.

Kayla Powers is a place-based artist and naturalist who makes ecologically focused textile art with and about the living world. She employs the traditional practices of foraging, dyeing, weaving, and stitching to explore the common threads of our shared humanity with the intention of creating connections - to the earth, to craft, and to each other.
Kayla Powers is the ATW 2025 International Artist in Residence. The International Residency is generously supported by the Tapestry Foundation of Australia through the Hancock Fellowship, and our accommodation partners David and Patricia Wallage.
