Join ‘Make the World Again’ exhibiting artist Ilka White to learn to make fantastic rag rugs using an off-loom, spiral woven braiding technique with a range of colour and design possibilities in this two-part workshop.

These sessions will be held online via Zoom. Participants will receive login details and a materials list prior to the Workshop.
This braiding technique weaves in as you go so there is no stitching up required afterwards. Creating beautiful and unique floor coverings is possible using contrasting colours, or you can blend patterned rugs for a ‘carpet of flowers’. Gather your own material to recycle.
Ilka is an artist and teacher whose practice spans textiles, sculpture, cross-disciplinary collaboration and art-in-community. Her popular classes reflect her love of the handmade, her contemporary use of traditional making methods and the principles of sustainability. Ilka holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Monash University and an Associate Diploma in Studio Textiles from Melbourne Institute of Textiles (now RMIT). She has exhibited internationally and her work is represented in the public collections of the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, RMIT University and private collections in Australia, U.K. and U.S.A.
