‘Leftover Love’ brought together four Melbourne based contemporary artists who use textiles or textile techniques to create sculptural forms that engage with ideas around sustainability, environment, and material culture. Leftover Love ran from 21 December 2021 to 11 March 2022 at the ATW.
Driven by a love of leftovers, Carolyn Cardinet, Hannah Gartside, Carolyn Menzies and Helen Philipp reuse, repurpose and remake found and discarded materials.
These artists use techniques such as stitching, knitting, weaving, and quilting with found textile remnants, plastics, and steel to create works that exist in the space between textile and sculptural practice.
These materials are elevated through this metamorphosis into sculptural forms, value is reinvested, and an alternate outcome is created for their future. In a celebration of the handmade, 'Leftover Love' prompted consideration of our own use of materials and the refuse we create.
This exhibition was supported by the City of Port Phillip, enabling the presentation of work by local artists Carolyn Cardinet, Carolyn Menzies and Helen Philipp.
