ATW is proud to partner with Fed Square on ‘I ragazzi deimillefiori: the flow’rs of song and story’, a new large-scale textile installation by artist (and recent ATW Artist in Residence) Sangeeta Sandrasegar, created in collaboration with ATW Dye Technician Heather Thomas.
Suspended in the open space of the Atrium, the artwork features panels of silk organza and cotton dyed with plant materials such as madder root, eucalyptus leaves, weld, and marigold flowers.
Through this thoughtful collaboration, the artwork reflects on themes of migration, cultural identity, and the deep histories of plant-based dyeing and textile craftsmanship. Layered with botanical illustrations and archival imagery—such as early 20th-centuryflower sellers on Princes Bridge—it draws connections between place, memory, and the stories we carry through both plants and cloth.
Explore the ideas further through a series of talks and workshops presented alongside the exhibition this spring.
