This week the weaving team at the ATW have reached the home stretch of 'Old Media' designed by Emma Biggs and Matthew Collings (UK).
Project leader Tim Gresham has noted one of the technical challenges for this tapestry has been the requirement to keep detailed records of the exact colour mixes used throughout the project. The subtle tonal shifts within the artwork have been created with bobbins using unique combinations of up to 12 different coloured strands of yarn, with each weaver undertaking extensive sampling of a specific area of the artwork to establish the extremes of the tonal parameters and treatment of transparencies prior to commencing work on the tapestry.
This project will remain on the loom until early August when the artists will join us from the UK for the cutting off of the completed tapestry. Make sure to get in to see this vibrant large scale tapestry on the loom while you can!
