Established in 2015 the Tapestry Design Prize for Architects (TDPA) challenges architects to explore the possibilities of tapestry and architecture through the invitation to create a tapestry design for a hypothetical site. The TDPA is the only international competition for architects to design specifically for tapestry.
Two winning tapestry designs have been produced at ATW as an outcome of the TDPA. One of the 2015 joint award winners John Wardle Architects' design Perspectives on a Flat Surface was commissioned by Judith Neilson AM in 2016. TDPA 2016 winner Justin Hill's design 22 Temenggong Road, Twilight is currently being woven by ATW weavers.
The full details of the TDPA 2018 award and the hypothetical site were announced at this launch event by esteemed architect Justin Hill. This launch also marked the opening of an exhibition of experimental tapestry samples of previous award winners' designs. The exhibition offered viewers a glimpse into the process of handmade tapestry production, and highlighted the innovative collaboration between ATW and living architects.Time: 6pm - 8pm
