Matthew Gove is an emerging artist working across a variety of mediums. His works on paper and ceramic sculptures reveal his wry sense of humour.
His small-scale artworks on paper are imbued with witty and playful narratives, often incorporating animals mimicking human behaviours and situations such as playing cricket, reading a newspaper and riding motorbikes. Also, an accomplished ceramicist, he creates work that is striking and embodies a sense of historical and mythical fantasy through various characters and creatures. Gove started working at Arts Project Australia in 2012. He has been selected in several group exhibitions including at C3 Gallery, Melbourne and Robin Gibson Gallery, Sydney. His work is held in private collections in Australia.
Matthew Gove is a recipient of the ATW x APA RESIDENCY PARTNERSHIP. In an ongoing partnership with Arts Project Australia (APA) the ATW will offer a residency place to an APA artist in 2022. This is an important professional development opportunity for the APA artists to create work in an inspiring studio environment and forge new connections in the Melbourne contemporary art community.
