Joanne Nethercote is an emerging artist working with acrylic on paper and embroidery. She has a strong interest in cats, a subject matter close to her heart. Joanneās art practice is currently flourishing, with her interest in - and representation of domestic cats as her dominant subject matter, which has produced beautifully observed works across her chosen disciplines of painting and embroidery. Her acrylic works are flat in composition, balancing a tranquil mood with harmony of colour. Her embroidery holds a similar style and demonstrates a sensibility to contrasting materials and moving compositions.
During her residency Joanne is eager to meet the ATW weavers and complete small-scale loom work. She will invite input from the ATW team to provide images of their furry felines to create personalised works. This penchant for referencing the cats of new people she meets in her artwork is a way in which Joanne forms connection with others.
Joanne has worked at Arts Project Australia since 2018 and has exhibited in a number of group shows in Melbourne. Her work is held in private collections. Joanne is the recipient of the ATW x APA Residency 2023.
