"My work has always been a transcendental mind’s journey through experiences and meditation. It is informed by the various aspects of prayers, rituals, Carnatic classical music, wild organic settings and repetition found in craft. It tends to take me on an expedition of discovery and search for purity. The process is a subconscious endeavour, almost always reducing thoughts to a single element/moment and is constantly trying to phase in and phase out from various memories.
I tend to dwell in subjects such as Nature worship, Phasing/transitioning, Absolution, Materiality in belief systems, prayers, Sacred sounds/Music, devotion and repetition. All these are found in - symbiotic ways of a forest, Soulful ragams of Carnatic music, sacred rituals of Ancient south Indian customs or in the simplicity of a artisans village. Indigo for me is a Spiritual pigment which represents a deep meditative space and has no form. In this interaction between the Physical and Metaphysical, my hands seem take control over my mind creating repeated markings, a method which renders the artwork. The repetition draws a parallel to the devotion an artisan works with, to create. I primarily work with Natural Indigo and hand spun, hand woven fabric."
