Painting with Thread was an exhibition of tapestries and samples from the collection of the Australian Tapestry Workshop (ATW) at the Australian Design Centre, Sydney.

The exhibition offered a glimpse into the processes of tapestry production by weavers at ATW from design, sampling, to weaving and completion. The selection of tapestries and samples in the exhibition emphasised the experimental and innovative approaches to contemporary tapestry design and production, as well as a diversity of recent projects and collaborations at ATW.

The exhibition featured the tapestries Treasure Hunt by Guan Wei (2018) and Everything has two witnesses, one on earth and one in the sky by Sangeeta Sandrasegar (2014). A display of samples alongside these tapestries offered visitors an opportunity to understand the process involved in the translation of artwork to the tapestry form.
