Discover hatching as a versatile technique for creating form, shape and tone in tapestry, and take your weaving to the next level. In this two-day workshop with ATW tapestry weaver Tim Gresham, you’ll learn a range of hatching techniques and explore how they can be applied to developing and interpreting tapestry designs.
You’ll investigate how the direction, spacing and colour of hatching can be used to describe form, define or soften edges, create tonal and colour gradations, and mix colour within the weaving. You’ll develop a hatching sample that brings these techniques together, giving you new possibilities to explore in your tapestry practice.
Suitable for tapestry weavers with some experience, including those who have completed Introduction to Tapestry Weaving or an equivalent beginner course.
A light afternoon tea will be provided.
Tim Gresham’s tapestry practice spans more than 30 years, alongside his work at the Australian Tapestry Workshop and his ongoing photographic practice. Drawing on his deep interest in photography and a fascination with rhythmic pattern and colour, Tim’s work explores the interplay of image, structure and the woven form.
His tapestries have been widely exhibited across Australia, including solo exhibitions at Ararat TAMA, Craft Victoria and Craft ACT, as well as major exhibitions such as the Wangaratta Contemporary Textile Award and the Rigg Design Prize.
