



Visit the ATW on Saturday 30 July for Open House Melbourne from 10am to 4pm.
The ATW occupies a heritage-listed building in South Melbourne, one of the finest examples of commercial buildings of the 1880s in inner suburban Melbourne and a distinctive example of Victorian Free Gothic architecture style. Visitors will have special access to the tapestry studio floor and can observe weavers working on large-scale contemporary handwoven tapestries. Galleries feature completed tapestries and contemporary textiles, and visitors can view the colour laboratory where the yarns are dyed for production. Visitors are welcome to drop in anytime between 10am and 4pm, or come at a specific time for one of the events below.
WHAT'S ON:
GUIDE & WEAVER TALKS:
10:30am, 12:30pm, 2.00pm and 3:00pm. Join ATW guides to learn more about the history of the ATW and the building, ATW weavers will explain the process of weaving a tapestry. 30 minutes.
KIDS TAPESTRY WEAVING:
Join ATW weavers for free drop-in weaving activities for kids. Drop in from 10am to 1pm & 2pm to 4pm. Capacity limited. Under 16 years.
FELT NECKLACE WORKSHOP:
Join Artist in Residence Isabel Deakin of Kin Workshop for a free workshop to make your own geometric felt necklace. Bookings essential. Three sessions: 10am, 12.30pm & 3pm. 1 hour.

WEAVING PLAY:
Try some basic weaving and play with a range of colourful materials including wool offcuts, recycled fabric and paper. Drop in from 10am to 4pm. Capacity limited, all ages.
ATW GALLERY:
‘Victoria Manganiello: Material Technology’ explores intersections between materiality, technology, geography and storytelling through traditional textile-based media alongside technological interventions and e-textiles. Victoria Manganiello is a textile artist, educator, producer and collaborator based in Brooklyn, New York, and an Artist in Residence at the ATW in 2022.
