We were delighted to celebrate the completion and cutting off ceremony of ‘Bridle Track, Hill End’ with Bathurst Regional Art Gallery and designing artist, Luke Sciberras.
It has been a pleasure working with Sciberras, who described this project as his most exciting collaboration to date: 'this project with the Australian Tapestry Workshop is truly one that spiked in me a tremendous interest and curiosity. There is for me an intrigue in the sourcing, treating, dyeing and ultimate use of wool and natural fibre to realise a dazzling artwork that is not only an image but a resonating object with rich power.'
Woven by Chris Cochius, Sue Batten, Amy Cornall, Karlie Hawking and Pamela Joyce, ‘Bridle Track, Hill End’, is the centrepiece of 'Threads through Art: Australian Artist Tapestries', an exhibition of tapestries at BRAG from 18 October – 1 December 2019. Through this exciting exhibition BRAG audiences have the opportunity see ATW tapestries designed by Richard Larter, Janet Laurence, Ginger Riley Munduwalawala, Nell, David Noonan, John Olsen, William Robinson, Gareth Sansom, Luke Sciberras, Arlene Textaqueen and John Wolseley.
The commission was jointly funded by BRAG and the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery Society (BRAGS) to celebrate 50 years of fundraising. Watch the video of the tapestry being made here.
