In this two-hour jewellery workshop, Lisa Waup will teach participants how to make their own unique ring or brooch using remnant fabric from her 2017 collaboration with Melbourne fashion designer Ingrid Verner and yarn from the Australian Tapestry Workshop.
Participants will work with circular shapes and patterns; for Lisa these represent family and connect her to Country, history and story. The embroidery symbolises the reattaching of these fragments. Lisa Waup is a Gunditjmara and Torres Strait Islander artist based in Melbourne. Waup uses traditional art forms and methods within a contemporary practice to create distinctively original weavings and works on paper. Using feathers and found objects, she creates tactile vessels that represent and dissect her ancestral Indigenous history and symbolise her connection to nature and the land.
