Desire Moheb-Zandi is a textile artist whose practice centres on weaving as a physical process and conceptual framework, merging traditional techniques with a contemporary, sculptural approach. Working primarily on the loom, she combines natural fibres, botanically dyed fibres, and upcycled materials to create abstract works exploring memory, materiality, and slow, tactile rhythms through which structure and meaning emerge.
Her work has been presented internationally, including exhibitions with Wentrup for Gallery Weekend Berlin and Monnaie de Paris/Asia Now, as well as a group exhibition at Mobilier National. She created a participatory monumental installation commissioned by LE19M Chanel Métiers d’Art in collaboration with Lesage and has contributed to public programs at the Fondation Cartier and the Musée du quai Branly. Desire has completed residencies at POUSH in Paris, Hill House in Pasadena, Mohilef Studios in Los Angeles, the Cob Plop Residency in London, and received the Prix Art Éco-Conception at the Palais de Tokyo.
With the guidance of ATW’s master weavers and in collaboration with the dye lab, Desire will explore tapestry’s technical and material possibilities, studying how threads meet, colours merge, and surfaces slowly build. During the residency, she will develop new work informed by the Australian landscape, dyeing fibres with local plants and creating pieces that merge woven structure with her sculptural textile language.
