We've had a busy few weeks at ATW with visits from two international master weavers!
Last month we welcomed Dovecot master weaver David Cochrane to the ATW. After completing a sample of Morning Star, David spent two weeks working on the tapestry alongside weavers Pamela Joyce, Cheryl Thornton and Chris Cochius. During his time here, David also gave a short presentation to ATW Weavers and Weaver Interns about his experience and recent projects at Dovecot Studios. The ATW + Dovecot Studios Weaver exchange program is generously supported by The Myer Scholarship through the Tapestry Foundation of Australia.
Following David's visit ATW welcomed master weaver Pierre Bureau, Director of the Manufacture de Beauvais in France. During his two weeks at ATW Pierre contributed to the Morning Star tapestry and also gave a free public talk about the history of the French National Tapestry Workshop. Pierre's visit was generously supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the TFA and Sofitel, and is an exciting exchange between the world's oldest and youngest tapestry centres.
